Wisdom Tooth Surgery

Wisdom tooth surgery is a minor oral surgical procedure performed to remove one or more impacted or problematic third molars (wisdom teeth). These teeth often grow at awkward angles or fail to fully emerge, leading to pain, swelling, or infection.

Common Reasons for Wisdom Tooth Removal:

  • Pain or swelling at the back of the mouth

  • Incomplete or sideways eruption (impaction)

  • Repeated infections (pericoronitis)

  • Cysts or damage to nearby teeth

  • Difficulty in cleaning, leading to decay

Procedure Steps:

  1. A dental examination and X-ray are done to assess impaction.

  2. Local anesthesia (and sometimes sedation) is given to ensure a painless experience.

  3. The gum is gently opened, and the tooth is removed, sometimes in parts.

  4. Sutures may be placed, and recovery instructions are provided.

Recovery Tips:

  • Apply cold packs to reduce swelling

  • Eat soft foods for 2–3 days

  • Avoid using straws or smoking during healing

  • Take prescribed medications as advised

When is it needed?
If your wisdom tooth is causing pain, pushing nearby teeth, or showing signs of infection or decay—it should be surgically removed before complications worsen.
